$48 million dollar Referendum : BOE needs to consider steps like hiring a tough professional negotiator

I would like to see major changes in the way our schools sytems operate. However, I know how the NJEA operates and I have to disagree with you that the BOE has been "irresponsible" in their negotiations. The need to consider steps like hiring a tough professional negotiator and eliminating the staggered negotiation schedule, by establishing collective bargaining with other towns in Bergen County.

But this is not a quick fix. And, the truth is that I am not willing to have my children suffer the consequences while you "fix" the system. So, I am voting "YES". Anyone with school-age kids or kids about to enter school should think twice before voting against the referendum, to "make a point". You will be doing a disservice to your children that won't be corrected until your children are out of the Ridgewood school system, if ever. And the problems with our buildings, over-crowded classrooms, and inadequate recreational facilities gets worse every year that we don't deal with them.

While I agree with the "spirit" of those, who would like to see reform to the educational funding system, we should recognize that Ridgewood is not unique. This is a state and nation-wide issue. I can't describe the resentment I feel toward those of you who are attempting to "make a statement" by voting "no", at my children's expense. You are a disgrace to this community!

I beg your pardon, just how am I a disgrace because I refuse to have my taxes raised? Tell you what, if you feel that the BOE really needs this money, and the children will suffer without it, you can pay the increase in my tax bill, OK? Because I think a whole lot of this is nonsense. There is no need to build new classrooms at GW when BF has tons of extra room. How about redrawing the district lines to shift the schools' populations. There are children who live within walking distance to BF that have to attend an overcrowded GW.

Learn all the facts before you go telling me I'm a disgrace.

I am willing to pay for my share of the increase, just as I did when my kids were not in the school system. So, why now should I pay yours, as well?

This is not nonsense. It is very real. And, I do know the facts. I have discussed the issues of redistricting with BOE members. It is not as simple as you suggest. You can't just redraw the lines every year. When you fix the apparent problem for a few residents, you create new problems for others. Redistricting is a very complex issue that is affected by many factors, which are difficult to model. There is no "good answer" when you start messing with redistricting.

Perhaps you should learn your facts! And you ARE a disgrace if you have benefits from the process over the years and now "refuse" to pay higher taxes when the needs of the school district don't impact you. I hope you live in a very large house on a big lot, so that your share of the increase will be more than most.

I'm with you 1:48. I have kids in the HS and I am not a disgrace as the poster suggests, because I am representing MY KIDS TOO!

The BOE has reached the tipping point...enough is enough!!

I am voting NO!! My son is graduating RHS next year and we are done with this town. The teachers' benefits/pensions, etc. need to be cut drastically. No one in the private sector like myself enjoys these type of benefits. Enough is enough as the previous poster has stated!
