Council members had originally planned to hold Work Sessions on July 22nd and August 26th.
However, Acting Village Manager Heather Mailander made an official announcement during the Council’s most recent Public Meeting that the aforementioned sessions were cancelled.
The Fly asks: Is it a wise idea to scrub two (2) planning/strategy sessions right smack dab in the middle of a bonafide economic crisis (as was reported by Village CFO Dorothy Stikna in remarks made during a July 1st Village Council Work Session)?
Additionally, there are quite a few important projects underway now in the Village (for example: reclaiming Chestnut Street parking lot; East Ridgewood Avenue Streetscape project; repaving Chestnut Street and Prospect Street parking lots; Vets Field bathroom construction). Many of these projects should be watched closely by the entire Village Council; that can’t be done if they’re all away at their respective beach houses.
Are Council members sending the wrong message by cutting back their level of intensity during July and August?

They should cancel everything not just some things.
Let's see. If they don't go to "work" then they can't do anything to us. Hmmm?
They SHOULD cancel Mailandar... that's what they should do.
They should go on furlow until September and save everyone some money.
furlows, well that would not be right.they spend money on things that we dont need and money we dont have and then they would like furlows from all workers in town yes all not some all.so if that is the way the village is going well start with the fire and police and then go to the rest of the town.all for one and one for all.thats how it will be done across the bord down the line yep.
The less they do the better --
POLITICIANS! YUCK!
- Just as Nero played the fiddle while Rome burnt to the ground. The VC needs to be at the beach while the Village runs out of money!
So since they are taking a break I propose we all take a break from paying our taxes!
HEY V.C.! Keep up the good work! Dingbats!
Aren't they volunteers? How will cancelling the meetings save money? And haven't they known about the dates of these meetings since January? They should be required to plan their vacations around the meetings, not the other way around.
no you bum they do get some mulla.
They get paid to be on the Village Council? You sure about that? I dont believe that this is the case. And, as volunteers, they should be able to plan around their own lives. Who cares about a Council meeting when the rest of the town is away on vacation? Relax.
Yet another case of dingbats expecting others to put in the time and do things for them. Dont want them to cancel the meeting? Volunteer yourself and then work all summer. I'll support your application.
this council needs to wake up the people of ridgewood are not happy with this gang.we all pay taxes for service thats why we all moved in to town.and now some are talking about cuting some i dont think so.Iam around town and see and talk to all the workers in town and they all tell me that all depts in town are low in staff, but in town hall most depts are full in staff.this is not a good thing.we just laid off workers in parks dept just greatnews.Iam shure that we could off used them in other depts.dont bull shit the people of ridgewood.we are see,ing it.and smelling it.step up and fix all the dept,s.
