The Implication being this person some how speaks for all blacks and it would be in their interest to ration health care for the rest of us? Folks maybe this is the problem to begin with . If a private investor wants to take a risk and open a hospital whats the problem ? I dont blame vested interests like Valley or Englewood Hospital for defending their turf but should it be up to Trenton to decide weather someone is allowed to open a hospital or not and where? I get it ,yes there are public health regulations and rightfully so but who the hell is Jon Corzine or some health care union to decide weather I can access health care or not ? Isnt the very problem leveled against the US health Care system that some dont have access? Yes some communities probably need a hospital more because of higher demand than north eastern part of Bergen county, but what does one have to do with the other ?

What do you expect from the North Jersey Media group... owners of The Record and the Ridgewood News. They learnt at the knee of the NY Times and will miss no opportunity (and will make some up) to present racist overtones in EVERYTHING. These are truly miserable people and they don't even know how sorry a lot they are. They poison otherwise well-meaning readers daily.
Just don't read them anymore.
If I want a local hospital and someone want to give it to me then let them. It is the American Way.
A question, and this is not a set-up, I promise. I honestly dont know how this works: Is Valley Hospital tax-exempt? I know I read this in an earlier thread. How do they not pay RE taxes to the Village of Ridgewood? I see other towns with at least some commercial base have lower taxes for residents and better schools. How can Valley be a for-profit hospital but be completely tax-exempt?
Pls tell me I am wrong. If Valley doesnt add real $$$ to Ridgewood.. what difference would it make if Valley was in Paramus, for example?
Thanks in advance for explaining. No jokes or rips here.. just facts, please.
Valley is a not-for-profit hospital. I googled the difference between for profit and not for profit and it is murky. A not for profit hospital is supposed to give charity care in lieu of taxes, but the standards of how much care to give is not set. Conflict in government about setting standards. Also a not for profit hospital can have subsidiary for profit businesses. And can pay high administrative salaries to its employees.
And for profit hospitals also do a lot of charity care and pay taxes. So how much charity care does Valley give? And how much of that care comes from govt. aid to hospitals or from its own profit gains from not paying taxes? I want to ask this question , but never have at renewal hearings.
Someone should ask July 15 hearings. I really want to ask unless someone knows answer who reads this blog and can tell me.
Valley is a not for profit corporation. They don't have to pay any taxes except FICA for its employees.
Valley is completely tax exempt not for profit...although they made abouit $45 million in profits last year. They do not pay a dime in real estate taxes or any other tax for that matter. It is a total sham...we the residents of Ridgewood foot the bill for the 93%of the patients at Valley that do not live in Ridgewood...I am so sick of the crap they are putting out about this expansion...hope you will all show up at the BF middle school auditorium on July 15th at 7:30 and voice your opinion....we are mad as hell and are not going to take it any more!!!!!!
Seriously... if we as taxpayers are going to foot the bill for 93% of those who walk into Valley w/o insurance... what does Valley give back to the community. Before everyone jumps on that and talks about the grand piano in the lobby... the convenience, etc... I am talking about hard dollars. I grew up near a community hospital with BIG political clout. BIG control over local politicians. BIG voice in school budget votes. And guess what? BIG, BIG, BIG institutional taxpayer. Kept the taxes down, paying more than the next five commercial properties in town COMBINED. So, while they were a machine that couldnt be touched... they paid for it each year in hard $$$. Valley? How do they have such clout w/o paying into the community. I dont need to see photo-ops in the paper. I want you to pay taxes, which would lower mine.. and fix up the school system with YOUR money. Seems fair, Renewal fans.
point of clarification, 93% of patients from out of town...NOT 93% no insurance.....
Tks for catching that. How does this work anyway?

Is this post correct? How/Why do I, as a Village taxpayer, pay for 93% of the patients at Valley who do not live in Ridgewood? That seems a bit out there...
Valley advertises on the radio all day. They are not doing that to attract Ridgewood, or even Bergen County patients. They are casting a wide net looking for people to fill their beds.
Valley has bought off many organizations in Ridgewood and many people too. They seem to own the social pages of the RN.
Wonder how many soirees Audry has at her home? Those people in positions of power will NEVER be against anything Valley wants.
Audry is in the paper almost once a week. Some weeks there are two photos of her. If you stand with Audry you can be in the paper too. For some people thats all it takes. They can't get their name in the paper unless they go to a benefit and stand in front of the camera. It can be a family comprtition.
