Reader thinks Al Gore should take the short bus

Al Gore is an idiot and they should take that nobel prize away.

Two reasons why...

1. He believes that the threat posed by the internal combustion engine is not only the gravest peril mankind faces, but that defeating it is a moral imperative equal to stopping the Holocaust. Comparing the THEORY of climate change to the Holocaust is insulting to all the Jews who died in the camps.

2. He cast the deciding vote for mandating ethanol additives in gasoline, causing the increase in food prices world wide and staving millions.

"With a tie-breaking vote by Vice President Al Gore, the Senate upheld today an Environmental Protection Agency rule requiring that ethanol and other renewable fuels get a share of the gasoline additives market.
The Senate voted 51-50 to table an amendment that would have denied financing to the agency to carry out a rule guaranteeing renewable fuels a 15 percent share of the lucrative fuel oxygenate market in 1995. That share rises to 30 percent in following years."

The photo is REALLY offensive to special needs friends and family. It's completely out of line and unnecessary. Suggest taking it down.

C'mon PJ. There's nothing funny about the picture. Get rid of it. It's sophmoric at best; highly offensive to most people.

sorry to all the special needs types but a lot of us are getting sick and tired of all the stupidity coming from the DC they are just DUMB and they dont fool anyone

Anonymous said...

i agree AL Gore is a bigot

as a jewish person you can not imagine how off the mark Vice President Gore sounds, he loses all credibility on this issue

611 and 658 perhaps some pics of concentration camps would be more fitting ?

Sorry buttheads but the short bus picture has nothing to do with this and is rude and unnecessary, at best. It's off topic - - stick with the politicians in Washington.
Say what you want about Al Gore but the reference to special needs kids is inappropriate and shameful. I'm not sure what kind of person finds humor in picking on defenseless members of society but I can say I wouldn't want to socialize with them any time soon.

How many of you wake up each morning to face another day with a special need kids?? You should be thanking your lucky stars it's not you who gets slapped across the face daily with ththpes of indignities.

7:26 - perhaps a picture of Al Gore at his worst might be more appropriate? Ya think!

Beatitudes for Disabled People....by Marjorie Chappell.

Blessed are you that never bids us "hurry up" and more blessed
are you that do not snatch our tasks from our hands to do them
for us, for often we need time rather than help.

Blessed are you who take time to listen to defective speech,
for you help us to know that if we persevere, we can be understood.

Blessed are you who walk with us in public places and ignore the
stares of strangers, for in your companionship we find havens of
relaxation.

Blessed are you who stand beside us as we enter new ventures,
for our failures will be outweighed by times we surprise ourselves and you.

Blessed are you who ask for our help, for our greatest need is
to be needed.

Blessed are you when by all these things you assure us that the
thing that makes us individuals is not our peculiar muscles,
nor our wounded nervous system, but is the God-given self that no infirmity can confine.

Blessed are those who understand that sometimes I am weak and
not just lazy.

Blessed are those who forget my disability of the body and see the
shape of my soul.

Blessed are those who see me as a whole person, unique and complete,
and not as a "half" and one of God's mistakes.

Blessed are those who love me just as I am without wondering what I might have been like.

To the original blogger: "Al Gore is an idiot and they should take that Nobel Prize away."

I am shocked that the Nobel Committee has not sought you out for recognition. You seem so reasoned and intelligent.

I agree that the photo and reference to the "short bus" is offensive to many. And the bloggers call Al Gore racist. The joke about the short bus is just as bad. It is interesting to note how many of you thought that it was OK.

oh the Fake outrage ,wheres youur outrage been when Al I invented the internet Gore used the Holocaust to GET OVER

and yes Al is an anti semite and "It is interesting to note how many of you thought that it was OK."

lighten up Arafat won a nobel prize so did carter it become a jok for a long time already

Oh boy, who would know that the "short bus" was for special needs children until someone took offense.

I just thought it meant a short bus route or something. I had no idea it was for the disabled or handicapped. After all, it is set in a rural setting. See the barn in the background.

As for Al Gore, well, he is disabled... intellectually.

6:05 pm - you're probably one of the few who didn't know what the "short bus" reference meant. It's been around for a good long while and always refers to disabled school children.

Anonymous said...

6:05 PM, I've only recently learned the meaning and etymology of the term 'short bus' myself.

It's a short, clipped phrase that is catchy, like the best of the curse words. I have to admit I chuckled a bit when I finally figured out what people were saying whent they used it.

Then I thought about how one of my neighbors, who I like and admire, and who is raising a special needs child of their own who takes such a bus to school every day, would feel if they heard the phrase come out of my mouth in casual conversation.

I'm not going to get on my high horse and say that nobody should use the phrase. But my admiration for those who bear the burden of raising special needs children prevents me from joining in on the fun.

For what it's worth, in the case of Al Gore, the issue is probably not his mental capacity (or lack thereof). What should really shock people is his abject lack of shame for taking such a prominent role in perpetuating such an enormous and obvious lie.

Most of the comments typify one of the challenges in American political debate today. They focus on style and not substance.

Also worth noting is that ethanol is currently regulated at 10%, never having been approved for 15% or more. However, as this is written, the U.S. EPA is evaluating increasing the ethanol percentage allowance for motor fuel. If you are OK with your boats, lawnmowers, snow blowers, or any other non automotive gasoline engine failing, then ignore the substance and get back to whining about a picture or watching the Michael Jackson funeral.

I think his name is Menendez. He is an hispanic comic who did a routine about his time with a "disabled" audience. Done with the utmost respect his main point was that handicapped people want to laugh at and with themselves and at and with others. I understand the indignation but let's not isolate anyone from humor.

Anonymous said...

3:48 AM It makes fun of disabled people. It may not bother you, but it is offensive to many people. The moderator is old enough to know this.

Anonymous said...

Laugh with them, not at them.

The moderator has still left the "joke" on display. Shame on you for allowing someone to make fun of defenseless children. Maybe you could replace the joke and photo with something about the "Smartest Guy in the Room" who brought the economy down. They are adults who should be able to laugh at themselves.

Anonymous said...

"short bus" jokes are not aimed at the disabled they are aimed at the the people who should know better who act so stupid like our congressand most nj politicians

Anonymous said...

P.J. i think "dumb as a box of rocks" might be a bit more universal

Anonymous said...

ae the people who fane offnces at the "short bus " joke the same people who attacked Brittany or said it was Ok not to pay the Umps?
your the ones who need to grow up and stop using your kids to get over

Anonymous said...

I have a disabled child and I do not find this particular display offensive.

I was going to stay out of this, but I just want to let everyone know that we are individuals and do not all think or act the same.

And yes, I am a very good parent and am very protective, so don't even go there.

Anonymous said...

I love that one, 8:08.

Here's a couple more my college buddy (the phrase king) introduced me to:

"Dumb as a plate of warts."

"Dumb as a bag of hammers."

Anonymous said...

8:07 - WRONG. SHORT BUS REFERS TO DEVELOPMENTALLY DELAYED KIDS.

8:10 - WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? YOUR STATEMENT MAKES NOT SENSE. (AND, btw, I DON'T LIKE THE SHORT BUS PICTURE, THOUGHT BRITTNEY SHOULD SPEAK HER MIND, AND THINK RBSA SHOULD PAY KIDS ON-TIME. USING MY DISABLED KIDS?? QUITE A LEAP.

Anonymous said...

"aimed at the the people who should know better who act so stupid" Are you telling me that as a parent of a disabled child you think that the comparison to "people who act stupid" is OK? I don't believe that you have a child who has special needs. You are saying this to make it sound as if the nasty comment is socially acceptable.

Anonymous said...

i love all the anti-semites on hearing trying to cover it up with there fake upset over the 'short bus ' picture and yes i have a big problem with a clearly wacked out al gore and all the dopes who allow him to use the holocust to con people ...

6:43 PM
This is no time to go off your meds.

Anonymous said...

1147 yes ill start taking the ones al gore takes btw did you know he invented the internet?

Anonymous said...

So, 11:47, if it is unacceptable to make short bus jokes, why is it acceptable to make jokes about people who need medication? I find the take your meds comments equally as offensive as the short bus comments. You should read the article by the woman with depression who said she wished she had cancer instead because she might actually get some sympathy and support then.

Anonymous said...

4:17 AM - Well said. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

No one knows who is getting by with daily medications. It is a private issue.

We all can see who is picked up by the special needs transportation. The kids all know who gets pulled out of class for extra help. I have never heard children make fun of each other for receiving help. But the parents seem to think that it is OK. Our children are being taught that it is OK to make fun of others. They are not naturally mean.

Anonymous said...

3:52 pm - I have a classified child who does receive pull-out help several times a week and I can assure you that, while not blatent, stdent to student discrimination still exists although not nearly at the level when we were kids. It's far more subtle these day and absolutely driven by the parents. When parents are open minded and get to know my child, they realize that he/she is a great kids. Other parents who, from day one, steered their kids away from mine will never know. As my child is fairly "normal" and most parents do not know that he/she is classified, I hear alot of terrible stuff about classified students. The worst was "get them out of the school -- we don't want them here" when we were having a general discussion on classroom crowding.

5:17 -
What school?

Anonymous said...

Children learn this from their parents. Children are very accepting of others. It is the parents who judge and ridicule. The children are imitating the parents - who should be setting a Good example.

Anonymous said...

8:27 - it's an east side school.

Anonymous said...

8:27 - why do you ask??

Anonymous said...

3:52, so because a disability is "invisible" it is OK to make fun of people who may have it? That is strange logic.
